Crude & Brent Oil Analysis Forecast, May 22, 2015 – Forecast

oil thursday bnsnlaAnalysis and Recommendations (Crude Forecast):

Crude Oil gained 82 points to trade at 59.60 still unable to break earlier highs, while Brent Oil added 91 cents to remain just a hair under the $66 price level. One of the United States’ biggest advocates of a controversial gas extraction technique known as fracking has hit out at Saudi Arabia’s plans to keep up bullishly high oil production levels despite a worldwide drop in prices.

Chris Faulkner, founder, president and chief executive of Texas-based Breitling Energy Corporation, warned Saudi Arabia is rapidly depleting its vast foreign currency reserves in an aggressive bid to retain its powerful share of the global oil market.

Despite crude oil falling below $54 a barrel for the first time in more than five years earlier this month, Saudi continues to produce almost 10 million barrels a day and has signaled it has no intention of changing its policy while it has upwards of $700 billion in its coffers.

But Faulkner told Arabian Business that Saudi Arabia’s persistent drive to increase production actually masks deep anxiety about what the future holds for a nation that generates up to 90 percent of its earnings from hydrocarbons.

Crude oil prices began rising after initial dips on Thursday, but remained within a narrow range that has been in place since late April as contradicting views of an oversupplied versus a tightening market push prices up and down.

Part of the problem in gauging the extent of oversupply in global oil markets is that market watchers are struggling to reliably count barrels that are currently being traded and stocked, with some estimates showing over 100 million barrels that are unaccounted for in international statistics.

Despite this, the consensus seems to be that the global market has been oversupplied by between 1.5 million and 2.5 million barrels per day since the start of the year.
