USD/JPY Analysis Forecast, May 18, 2015 – Forecast

Analysis and Recommendation (USD/JPY Forecast):

The USD/JPY gained 16 points after Thursday’s rout as the pair dipped below the 119 level to correct to 119.32 in the morning session.  Japanese stocks fell, with the Topix index headed for the first loss in five days, after the yen strengthened against the dollar as weak U.S. retail sales data added to signs the world’s biggest economy is slowing.

The Bank of Japan has been quiet of late as the lofty goals set forth by Abenomics seem further out of reach as the Japanese economy has failed to achieve sustained growth. Investors are unsure if the BOJ will move because in recent history the central bank has built a trend of patient comments and a shock decision taken the market by surprise. After being the most proactive central bank in 2013, the BOJ spent 2014 in the sidelines with the exception of the shock decision on October 31.
